Nendrum Monastery has a small car park with access to the lough shore on the opposite side of the road. Canoes can be launched from a stony beach care should be taken to avoid submerged rocks. This is a beautiful and sheltered area to explore by canoe.

Nendrum Monastery was founded in the sixth century and had the blessing of Saint Patrick. The ruins are on Mahee Island off the west coast of Strangford Lough accessible by bridges, with dry stone walls. The remains of this pre-Norman monastery include three concentric enclosures, with round tower stump, ruined church,  foundations of other buildings, sundial, cross-slabs.
A small museum also on site.
