NewcastleNewcastle has a small car park at the beach across the coast road from the Slieve Donard car park, that is handy to access the water with steps leading to the beach one side and a ramp the other. If the car park is full then you can use the Slieve Donard car park across the road.
Toilets available at the Slieve Donard car park and beside the Tourist Information. This access point is a good point to experience Dundrum Bay and to follow the picturesque Mourn coast. Before Paddling in Dundrum Bay you need to check to see if the firing range at Ballykinler, is in use. As a exclusion zone of nerly 3 miles is in place and marked by three yellow marker buoys marked DZ. This area should not be entered if a red flag or red light is on display at Ballykinler base, just north of the Dundrum Inner Bay entrance (a red flag/light can also be see from Dundrum). You can call Belfast Coastguard to check if the range is in use on 028 9146 3933. |
